Today, at long last I received my Smart Meter and now I can see how much energy I am using. It is a little scary, and I keep switching things on and off to see what difference it makes!
This got me thinking about the workplace. Energy is an easy way of saving money and need not require a lot of investment. To start with, is your heating and cooling at the right temperature? Not everyone likes the same temperature, but keeping an office between 19⁰ and 21⁰ suits most people. Do you have time controls? You don’t want to heat your offices at night or weekends. And how about hot water? This needs to be a 60⁰ for safety, but probably no hotter.
Heating and water account for approximately 45% of your energy use, so if you can control them, you could achieve significant savings.
